The Classical Players
by Jihmye Collins
Music is everywhere…
the lowlands, the mountains
And across miles of rhythmic waves
of the seas
to distant communities
one will perhaps never see
Up from the soul, deeply rooted
in the traditions
of the Continent
Abstracts of time and space
Of shapes, form and comprehensive
sound
incapsulatng every imaginable mood
of human feeling
A creative expression
of great improvisational
complexity
from the melodic, to blues,
to avant garde
And, of call and response
Through its complexity,
comprehensiveness
And extreme degree of difficulty,
Jazz seeks what seems impossible
to find
continuously stretching with
creative courage
the outer limits of expression
Jazz is Jazz
It is not champagne or lights out
Jazz
And, it ain’t no fusion!
The great players, a cross-section
of humanity
who are the music
past and present
continue to reiterate this fact
They were not in 4/4 time
They were very African, and
That ain’t no 4/4!
Music is eveywhere―Jazz
At times the extreme of
unstructured
sounds
abstract rhythms in staccato
sheets of the uncommon
perceived to be radical
serve as a focal point
of the beginning of order
I’m in the mood for love
Mood indigo, the moody blues
Moods, Moods, Moods
of melancholy, indifference
Anger, sadness, happiness
Or, I got the blues
And that ain’t bad!
Without a song
Every work time―time for
creatin’
I put on some Jazz
proceeding―getting lost in
creativity
Obviously a source of inspiration
of a greater power
This is the expression of
The Classical Players
